An established refurbishment contractor based in Chingford is looking to appoint an Estimator to join their commercial team. The business delivers refurbishment and maintenance projects across prime London, with a strong presence in Chelsea and a high level of repeat client work.
Projects typically range up to £4m in value, with an average job size of around £400k. Works include external, internal and maintenance schemes, often within occupied buildings.
This is a hands-on estimating role within a small, stable team. The MD remains actively involved in the business and there is minimal hierarchy - it’s a practical, working contractor rather than a corporate structure.
The Role
• Pricing refurbishment and maintenance works from tender enquiry through to submission
• Preparing take-offs and building rates (Excel-based cost plans and comparisons)
• Issuing subcontract enquiries and analysing returns
• Producing tender submissions and supporting clarifications
• Working closely with the QS team to ensure smooth handover on live projects
• Supporting commercial discussions where required
The role is office-based in Chingford, working standard 8–5 hours.
What they’re looking for
• Estimating experience within a main contractor environment (refurbishment preferred)
• Strong numerical ability and confident use of Excel
• Comfortable pricing multiple smaller schemes concurrently
• Organised and methodical approach
• Flexible attitude in a small-team environment
• Someone commercially aware who understands the practical realities of refurbishment
This would suit someone who prefers a steady, relationship-driven contractor rather than a heavily layered commercial department.
