Senior Planner | Hertfordshire | Principal Contractor
Let’s be honest. If you tell people at a party you’re a construction planner…
they either nod politely, or make a quiet exit to “top up their drink” and never return.
Because planners have a reputation.
The programme police.
The people who say “you can’t do that” when everyone else is already doing it.
The ones who ask awkward questions like “but when will it actually be finished?”
And yes… sometimes you are the villain in the room.
But only because you’re the only one who’s read the drawings, checked the logic, spoken to procurement, and realised that “we’ll make it work” isn’t actually a strategy.
In reality, a good planner is the calmest person on the job.
The one who’s already seen the problem, built three ways around it, and is just waiting for everyone else to catch up.
Which is why - if you’re one of the good ones - where you work really matters.
Because there’s a big difference between: Being ignored until things go wrong and Being listened to before they do
So, this one’s for the planners who are tired of shouting into the void…
Senior Planner | Near Broxbourne, Hertfordshire | Permanent
Hybrid: a few days in the office, a few on site, with flexibility the remaining day
The business (and hopefully your experience matches)
🔹 £250m turnover build division (part of a larger, stable group)
🔹 Projects from £1m – £50m
🔹 Sectors: Commercial, Education, Life Sciences & Defence (no resi)
🔹 Asta Power Project
The role:
Full lifecycle involvement — from tender stage through pre-con and onto site, right the way through to delivery. You won’t just “produce a programme”… you’ll actually have a say in it.
Why it’s different:
This is a business that gets planning.
They don’t wheel you in when things go wrong — you’re part of the conversation from day one.
Just proper planning, done properly.
If you’ve ever moved a bar on a programme and accidentally caused three meetings, two arguments, and one existential crisis… you’ll fit right in.
Interested — or know someone who is?
Happy to have a discreet chat.
